Small Spaces By Kathrine Arden
“Slowly the bus driver stood up. The shouting died away. The driver turned around. He seemed to have gotten both taller and wider. ‘Well,’said the driver, surveying them, ‘best get moving at nightfall they’ll come for the rest of you.’ “ That passage was from the book I will be booktalking, Small Spaces By Kathrine Arden.
Small Spaces is a book about Ollie. And one day when Ollie was exploring the Swimming hole she found woman getting ready to throw a book in the water. Ollie didn’t want this book to go to waste so she took it and decided to read it.
The book was about a family that lived on a farm about a hundred years ago. This family had some strange adventures involving a “smiling man”. At first Ollie just thinks it’s a normal fiction book, until she goes to a farm for a field tip and the lady who was going to throw the book into the water owns the farm. During the trip Ollie left the group to go read more of her book in the forest, but in the forest she found an old cemetery and inside the cemetery was the graves of the characters in her book are on the farm.
On their way home from the farm their bus breaks down and Ollie takes the bus driver’s advice from the quote before and decides to go off with a few friends and fix the problems that the “smiling man” has caused.
A BHH moment I had during the book was I was really scared and worried for Ollie when she was alone with her friends.
Will Ollie survive? Will she fix the problems that the “smiling man” caused? Read this thrilling adventure by Kathrine Arden, to find out what happens to Ollie.
