My February Book Talk

The Forgotten Girl by India Hill Brown

“There was something buried, just barely, under the snow angel’s chest, where her heart would be. It glistened in the moonlight. They bent over and worked together to uncover it.

Their hands froze in midair, mimicking the angels’.

Daniel gasped.

‘Iris , that’s…’

Iris sat down at the crumbling stone, a gust of cold air pushing past her, forcing her to speak.

‘A grave.’ ”

And that passage was from the book I will be booktalking, The Forgotten Girl by India Hill Brown.

The Forgotten Girl is a book about Iris and her best friend Daniel. And on the night of the first snow Daniel and Iris snuck out to play in the snow. And as you heard in the quote Iris made a snow angel on top of o grave. Turns out this grave is of a girl who was about their age, and she was buried in a segregated cemetery.

Then after that night Iris’s nightmares become more vivid, they involve a ghost who just wants to be remembered. Iris has never seen the face of this ghost so how could she be dreaming of her. Are these dreams even dreams?

While trying to solve what happened to the ghost and dealing with their own issues at home will Iris and Daniel find out why this ghost is bugging them? Will the ghost be remembered? Read The Forgotten Girl by India Hill Brown to find out.
