My February Book Talk

The Forgotten Girl by India Hill Brown

“There was something buried, just barely, under the snow angel’s chest, where her heart would be. It glistened in the moonlight. They bent over and worked together to uncover it.

Their hands froze in midair, mimicking the angels’.

Daniel gasped.

‘Iris , that’s…’

Iris sat down at the crumbling stone, a gust of cold air pushing past her, forcing her to speak.

‘A grave.’ ”

And that passage was from the book I will be booktalking, The Forgotten Girl by India Hill Brown.

The Forgotten Girl is a book about Iris and her best friend Daniel. And on the night of the first snow Daniel and Iris snuck out to play in the snow. And as you heard in the quote Iris made a snow angel on top of o grave. Turns out this grave is of a girl who was about their age, and she was buried in a segregated cemetery.

Then after that night Iris’s nightmares become more vivid, they involve a ghost who just wants to be remembered. Iris has never seen the face of this ghost so how could she be dreaming of her. Are these dreams even dreams?

While trying to solve what happened to the ghost and dealing with their own issues at home will Iris and Daniel find out why this ghost is bugging them? Will the ghost be remembered? Read The Forgotten Girl by India Hill Brown to find out.

My January Book Talk

Small Spaces By Kathrine Arden

“Slowly the bus driver stood up. The shouting died away. The driver turned around. He seemed to have gotten both taller and wider. ‘Well,’said the driver, surveying them, ‘best get moving at nightfall they’ll come for the rest of you.’ “ That passage was from the book I will be booktalking, Small Spaces By Kathrine Arden.

Small Spaces is a book about Ollie. And one day when Ollie was exploring the Swimming hole she found  woman getting ready to throw a book in the water. Ollie didn’t want this book to go to waste so she took it and decided to read it.

The book was about a family that lived on a farm about a hundred years ago. This family had some strange adventures involving a “smiling man”. At first Ollie just thinks it’s a normal fiction book, until she goes to a farm for a field tip and the lady who was going to throw the book into the water owns the farm. During the trip Ollie left the group to go read more of her book in the forest, but in the forest she found an old cemetery and  inside the cemetery was the graves of the characters in her book are on the farm.

On their way home from the farm their bus breaks down and Ollie takes the bus driver’s advice from the quote before and decides to go off with a few friends and fix the problems that the “smiling man” has caused.

A BHH moment I had during the book was I was really scared and worried for Ollie when she was alone with her friends.

Will Ollie survive? Will she fix the problems that the “smiling man” caused? Read this thrilling adventure by Kathrine Arden, to find out what happens to Ollie.

My November Book Talk

“They had murdered her mother, her father, her twin sister and so many of the Dead Hollow lair.”

The quote you heard before is from the book Willa Of the wood by Robert Beaty. I have a few books that I need to read before I will be able to read the book I found in the book talk that I recently watched. But for now I will be book talking the book I am reading now, which is Willa Of the Wood by Robert Beaty, that I quoted before.

This book is about a young Faeran girl named Willa who lives in the Great Smoky Mountains with her grandmother. Willa lives with her grandmother because her parents and her twin sister have been killed, as you heard in the quote before. Willa was a part of a Faeran clan run by a padaran. Everybody in the clan treats him as a god. But once some awful events happen and spine chilling discoveries occur, Willa leaves her clan. Now she is on her own. Where will she go?

A BHH moment I had while reading this book was, I was really worried for Willa when she was discovering secrets about her clan. Read the book Willa Of The Wood, by Robet Beaty to find out what Willa does and how she survives.

The book I found that intrigued me was Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus by Dusty Bowling. I want to give a shout out to Maddie R. who book talked this book to me. Maddie’s book talk made me want to read the book because she made the book sound very intriguing when she added the part about the mystery the girl and her friend worked to solve. She also made me want to read the book because she explained what the main character said about her arms.

Thanks again Maddie. And make sure to read Willa Of the wood by Robert Beaty.

October Book Talk- My Promoted Book

“My parents were hanging out in the living room, and I heard my father say, ‘Well we’re lucky Julia’s a girl. What if she was a boy and that short? ”

I am  going to tell you about the book Short by Holly Goldberg Sloan.  Short is a book about Julia and as you heard in the quote before, Julia is very short. But it’s not just her height that bugs her, it’s also the recent death of her beloved dog Ramon. Julia’s summer starts out awful, because of what her mom makes her do. But by the end if you asked her, she would say her summer was great.

A BHH moment I had was, I was really surprised when Julia gave away one of her most prized possessions. I was very surprised because  giving away something that means a lot to you would be very hard to do.

If you like books that are like an emotional roller coaster. Then you’ll love this book.

Read the book to find out what Julia spends her summer doing.

My #DigCit Goal for 6th Grade

My #DigCit goal falls in the category BALANCE. My goal for the year of sixth grade is, I want to balance my time on a screen and hanging out with my family. I chose this goal because I don’t just want to spend all my time on a screen playing apps, or texting my friends. I want to spend time with my family playing games outside or in the house. Another reason I chose this goal is during our Digital Citizen talks I learned that having a conversation is important, and we can’t have conversations when we are sitting on a screen all day long. But we also need time to text our friends, and take a break playing apps. We all need a balance in everything, but this year I want to balance my technology time with my family time. That is why I chose the  #DigCit goal of, I want to balance my time on a screen and hanging out with my family.
